Purpose of position

This position is responsible for the development, design, build, test and delivery of reliable and robust mechanical enclosures, assemblies, and components in line with the Quantifi Photonics product development roadmap.

Key Performance Areas

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, development, design validation and delivery of high-quality telecom grade enclosures, parts, and assemblies with involvement throughout the entire product development lifecycle. 
  • Plan out project mechanical engineering activities and work with program manager to create realistic schedules.
  • Design validation of mechanical designs through both internal testing and the utilization of external services covering reliability, HALT, thermal etc.
  • Utilize design approaches such as DFEMA (Design Failure mode effects analysis), (FEA) Finite Element Analysis, Dfx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test etc.), Value engineering and standard parts to ensure that designs are robust and reliable and can be released to production with minimal friction.
  • Creation and releasing of artifacts such as detailed 2D drawings, accurate bill of materials (BOM) for new parts and assemblies and product assembly drawings (as initial work instruction guide for production).

Expected Outcomes

  • Create and review technical drawings, plans and specifications 
  • Reliable and robust designs, developed in a timely manner, released to production.
  • Strong focus on Dfx so products go together easily and quickly in production. 
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process
  • Ensure project timeline is met
  • Generation of engineering analysis documentation and reports (includes analysis for thermal, FEA, tolerance, reliability)
  • Makes use of Rapid prototyping to speed up learning cycles and design iteration.
  • Released artifacts and design outputs are accurate and released in line with QP standard configuration control practices.

Qualifications and Experience


  • Demonstrates excellent communication, self-management and documentation skills. Takes ownership of a project or problem and can be relied upon to complete it, working with others as needed to deliver key outcomes.
  • 3 years plus professional experience designing mechanical systems and products
  • Bachelor or Masters level qualification in Mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with CAD programs like Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience with Issue/task tracking software such as JIRA software.
  • Experience with configuration management systems.
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Must be self-motivated and a great team player.

Good to Have

  • Experience in working in a global team, working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Experience with Thermal Analysis, FMEA, Dfx.
  • Dealing with Suppliers.
  • BOM programs like Aras Innovator.
